In his description of the 2012 future, one of the minor mentions in the book is how there is an entire set of technology used to erase the smoking out of old movies. Smoking has become such a stigma, such a hated thing, that every bit of evidence that smoking ever existed has been methodically erased from the public eye.
In animation, it's already been done: the Pecos Bill segments of Disney's Melody Time have already excised out his cigar that he had for most of the film.
fortunately, they didn't do that with 101 - instead they took footage of Cruella and made an opening "smoking sucks" commercial out of it.
Right now... (for what I mean by 'now') it isn't everything. The sentiment is there, but it hasn't spread to *everything*. They haven't started digitally editing classic black and white movies, or removing the word 'smoking' from books. ::sighs:: Although I was unaware that Disney had done something like that.
