don't have to - i just have to be able to pay the barkeep who's doing the pouring. some times we pay on credit, some times we pick up the tab for others so that some day they too can pay their tab and the tab of another.
the idea of my glass, acting in isolation of what filled it in the first place, and in isolation of what might fill it again, and certainly in isolation of the glasses of others, is something i simply will not fathom.
Because the goddamn mainstream media doesn't WANT you to know there's more than two choices. They want to keep us divided over that whole phony "half-empty/half-full" argument, marginalize the third parties, and keep us from thinking critically about our future... um... wossname...
Exactly. There aren't just two choices. Yours is one of the classic responses, as is "the glass has 6 dB of headroom". I hadn't heard "needs more ice" (mentioned in another comment below) but that works too.
Folks just get lazy and stop listing 'em at two. Or even lazier and stop thinking at two...
I've always just thought it was a damn silly expression because it's quite easily explained. If someone poured water into a glass and stopped when the glass was half full, then it's half full. If there was a full glass of water that someone drank half of, then it's half empty. Why the existential angst over it?
