I was going to ask if you tried to give the car a jumpstart. It was sounding like either the battery or the alternator.

a jump wouldn't have helped because i had no time to actually take it to the shop once it was on. cyd had an appointment i had to drive her to. plus if the alternator and the jump didn't charge the battery enough, i'd be dead in the middle of the road somewhere.
