Yes I know how to change a letter, and on every machine I've got (work, home, laptop, desktop, doesn't matter), "B" is simply not an option.

Update: It will let me change a flash-drive or a card reader drive to A and B. It is only external hard drives that it refuses to change to that location.

*sigh*...

(I say *sigh* because I have a 4-letter card reader that I've moved to wxyz to get it "out of the way", so it does me little good to be able to change some of them but not all).

Could have something to do with the type of drive. I just double-checked my systems here. On the XP Pro 32-bit SP3 system, hard drives and optical drives could not be set earlier than C, but a USB drive could be set to B. On my Win 7 RC1 system, I could set all drives to A or B. So, it looks like they've partially addressed the issue in Win7.

USB drives can usually be set to A and B. I believe that this is because newer machines do not often include a floppy drive and because of that, many people use external USB 3.5 drives.

you missed what I read. I can turn a flash card or a card reader "drive" to A or B, but I can not turn an external USB hard drive to A or B. it simply won't let me.

My bad. By USB drives, I did not mean to include hard disks.
