Depends on what the convictions are. I lean away from meat, but that's not because of any sadness about the poor fuzzy animals. I'm trying to eat less meat both for health and environmental reasons, and if I were actually /cooking/ meat (which I don't - I don't particularly know how to cook unprocessed meat) I'd probably try to shy away from factory farmed stuff.

I have at least one friend I very much respect who is all but vegetarian but won't shun a pizza with some pepperoni on it, and has no problem buying meat containing things for other people.

And I know several vegetarians who will cook meat for their spouses. One of them will eat meat at her spouse's family reunion, once a year. (Which likely keeps her from getting sick from accidental meat).

I'm actually more amused by some of the others, such as "semi-vegetarianism" (only eat half your vegetables), "Pollotarianism" (eat parrots), or "pescetarianism" (eat Italian-American film actors).

"mostly vegetarian" has the same number of syllables and is more descriptive. I try to move toward that; I know at least one person who is that.
