here it is, for decades we say that we don't want to be sold to, that we have better things to do with our time than endure the endless commercials that dominate our society at the expense of real culture, that we really are in a quest for something real to hold onto in our lives and not the fleeting fasions and fads destined for obscurity until vh-1 comes up with "i *heart* pretty much everything that didn't come out last week"...

...or we don't.

The fact that the #1 rated television program each year has most of its audience watching for the commercials is a really sad indicator of the hell that our society has become.

When the company has 60 seconds to pull you in, and they're paying $2 million to show you something, typically they're going to make it worth the watching, or so you'd think.

Two words: Gigli. Ishtar.

its very easy to shove down millions into something that simply isn't going to be worth it (hell, the .bomb proved that much), nor come even close.

You're both right ... the only difference is that one of you is talking about what people hope for (which is why they watch), and the other is talking about what they end up getting (which is why they're so frequently disappointed).
