Google maps has updated the satellite shots of Crownsville, MD, and the shots were apparently taken in the winter time: all the trees are just sticks and shadows and so its much easier to see the buildings of the site than in past shots where most of it was just bushy green trees.

of course, it also makes the site seem much dirtier than we know it is, but that may just have been taken right after a rain storm or something...

Hmm, the big blue tarp is up and there is still some green grass here and there.

Neat

I would say a few weeks post Faire, and a few years ago. There's no pergola over the Market Stage seating, so that puts it at least two years ago. But the wear marks of the lanes and the pathways, plus the few cars/vehicles present, suggest a few weeks post Faire ending. Very kewl to get a bird's eye view, and try and match that with one's ground memories. Looking at one section and going, "what the ?" and then... "Oh, that's the SLIDES !!"

agreed, at least a couple of years ago. No children's pirate ship either!

It looks like the canopies are off of the White Hart -- but I can't tell if there are tables or benches close to the stage...

actually, what definitely dates it to 2005 isn't the pirate ship so much as the Market Stage - 2005 was the year it was built (as "Puke and Snot Market Stage") but it didn't have the canopy wood (with attempted vine growth) over the audience yet.

correcting myself - my memories have the new market/boars head actually built in 03 or 04. they all tend to blur, don't they?

I don't know for sure, but maybe the tarps and canopies are removed after the season?

most are, but that was the point of mentioning the market stage - it never had any in its new design. in '06 it got the partial roofing setup with the vines growing, in the hopes that the vines would create a natural sun shade. alas, 2 years of droughts have kinda hit that idea back a bit.

but in its first year or two there wasn't a roof at all to the Puke and Snot era site.

You know - that is really amazing. From space you can tell that the Lyric is blue. And people say there's no magic in the world. I am just floored by that.

Not Fall

Spring. The trees have a blush of light green to them. Early enough that the grass is greening up well and the leaves are starting to think about coming out in full force.

did you get a look at the maze? i don't think it's quite that big. if it is, that certainly explains a lot about why i couldn't find my way out of it. *lol*
