Last night, [livejournal.com profile] faireraven asks for fish.  I'm, like, "ok".

So last night we had what Sweetwater Tavern always has as its "fish of the day" (don't ask why they don't bother to just go ahead and put it on the menu 'cause they always have it).  I pulled out a couple of mahi-mahi filets (from a fish variety pack from Omaha Steaks), marinated them in melted butter, a little minced garlic, and Emiril's Fish Rub, grilled 'em up, and it tasted good enough that I didn't feel the need to drown them in tartar sauce.

experimentation fun.

Occasionally they have halibut. :)

But you asked me to make suggestions for dinner, so I made one. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself! :)

Sweetwater Tavern??

I am reading Widdershins, and Lizzie is at the Sweetwater Cafe right now.

Reality is hard enough for me to hold onto. Things like this seriously inhibit my ability to maintain!

There are several different "Sweetwater Taverns" out there - it's a franchise but one where the local franchisee can have a lot of sway over the look and feel (and food).

the three in the DC area are run by Great American Restaurants, which also run 2 Coastal Flats and a few others in the area.

These Sweetwater franchises are very different from the 2 in Atlanta or the several others across the country. The chain originated in Texas.

There's no relationship between the Tavern and this Cafe you speak of.

For Mahi, one word: Blackened. Coat with blackened seasoning, pan sear (little butter & olive oil), remove fish, add a bit o' white wine to pan, reduce til thick and dark, pour over fish.

Amazing.

Great American Restaurants includes:

3 Sweetwater Taverns (Merrifield, Centerville and Sterling)
2 Coastal Flats (Fairfax and Tysons)
Silverado (Annandale)
Mike's American (Springfield)
Arties (Fairfax)
Carlyle Grand (Shirlington)
Best Buns Bread Company (Shirlington)

There is a lot that is similar between all the lines, but each has their own distinctive feel. The only two I haven't gone to are Arties and Carlyle Grand.
