who's voice should *YOUR* car use to tell you something?

slashdot poll -- who's voice should your car use when giving status/alarms. naturally, Majel Barrett is a choice, so's Dan Castellaneta and Liv Tyler (who's winning the poll).

Of course, the discussion has tonnes of other choices suggested. I put a suggestion for Tony Jay (Megabyte, Judge Frollo in Hunchback, etc) -- i figure one should be afraid when the car says something's wrong.

Just had an image of some yiddisha momma's voice yelling out "Close that door! What were you, raised in a barn?".... rather than that irritating bell that dings instead.

Think I prefer the bell...

personally, i wouldn't want my car talking to me. i think it would creep me out.

"Close the door [cozit/acroyear70/etc]" "Why won't you please close the door?" "I want you to close the door." "Daisy, close the door please do."

All of the above in either HAL voices or sultry female or sultry male (depending on the user).

Drill sargeant voice would be a bit much. There was a car at college who parked in the front row of one of the student lots (right next to the major through road of the lot) that would say "Please step back from the car, you are standing too close to the ve-hic-le" very loudly and menacingly. I nearly jumped into traffic when it first yelled at me. I eventually left a note the windshield (after listening to it 3 days a week for 2 months) saying that if they didn't want someone close to their vehicle, maybe they should park at the other end of the parking lot.

How about 'Zack Rackham' doing his "Cast call NOW!" voice?k

*g* Actually, one of the reasons I'd find it really annoying is that I had the experience of having one of those connections short on my on a trip from here down to the NC Outer Banks...about an hour into the trip. Wasn't continuous the *whole* trip, but in sections of listening to 'bings' we had to hear it for about 2-3 hours. Think it bugged me more than the kiddies, but just *think* what you'd feel like doing if it had been *talking* to you the whole time!
