If I'm listening to a classical music cd (or certainly an audiobook) in the car, and I stop the car in the middle of it because I reach my destination, I'll just leave it going where it left off when I'm back restarting the car after my errand.

However, if I'm listening to pop/rock music (either cd or mp3), I'm likely to want to skip any unfinished song as soon as I restart the car.

I'm guessing it has to do with associating pop/rock music with listening to the radio.  With radio, you don't expect the song to still be playing when you get back (and you're likely to have sung the earworm out of your head during that time anyways).  But I'm just wondering if I'm the only one.

Update: Ok, its just me and I'm weird.

I tend to do something similar - the classical/instrumental I just let it pick up where I left off, but if it's pop/etc I tend to skip back to the beginning of the song and let the whole thing play. Unless I've changed moods in the time I was out of the vehicle/away from the music player. I often pick my music by my mood.

I pretty much let the CD start wherever it left off no matter what type of music it is. Sometimes I'll start the song from the beginning if it's one that I really like.

I pretty much let anything play in my car. If it is a song I really like, I might start it back from the beginning, but I never skip.

Nope - I don't skip, no matter what, unless it's a song I don't like (very rare, but there are a couple of CDs I have with a song I don't like), which will get skipped PDQ.

If it's a really good song I will wait for it to end before turning off the car. Can't really stand audiobooks, can't really picture the story in my head that way(plus I prob shouldn't do that while driving anyway)

well, its not really audiobooks that i listen to on occasion, but british radio shows (specifically h2g2 and dr who shows from big finish). i just used the term 'cause nobody bothers to listen to "audio drama" in america except us weirdos.

I rarely forward (though I may leave the CD running to get to a logical break in the song after reaching my destination and/or turn the CD player off because I won't finish the next song and just listen to the radio or whatever).

Yes. But we knew that already...

Classical pieces tend to be about ten times longer, so if you listen to half of one, it's still a substantial piece of music. Half of a little pop/rock song is just a tease.
