Congress's "Defense of Marriage Act" has resulted in late former congressman Gerry Studds's legally married spouse not being permitted to collect Studds's Congressional pension, a right that wouldn't have ever even been questioned with so-called "normal" marriages.

Lovely. I am terrified by our government and what's going on right now. This, Iraq, the space thing, arrests for free speech, military tribunals, torture, etc. What is wrong with these people? I know people are going to look back at us the way we look back at WWII Germans and ask, why didn't they do anything, but I don't know what we can do. I't incredibly depressing.

I'd be very surprised if ANY member of Congress speaks up to sympathise with, much less do something about, Studd's spouse's plight. Certainly not in the next three weeks.
