which challenge to the constitution are you (or was it) referring to?
the budget-only line-item veto (easily and correctly thrown out by the supreme court within a year)? (btw, i note that now that the republicans have had both houses, the presidency, and a majority of state governments, they're not exactly in any hurry to actually enact the line item veto amendment they said was so critically important 24 years ago...)
the Communications Decency Act (and the insane anti-abortion clause it contained, all easily and correctly thrown out by the supreme court within a year)?
the end of sodomy laws?
the end of state-imposed term limits on congressmen (a correct reading of the constitution)?
or are you just being partisan and talking about the reelection of clinton? :)
seriously, i believe that nothing that happened in 1996 comes anywhere close to the insanity of eliminating habeus corpus, unlimited detentions, unwarrented wiretapping, and the list goes own (such as the House's recent passing of the disgusting PERA yesterday). This congress and this administration have shown nothing but utter contempt for the constitution and the bill of rights on a scale not seen in my lifetime, and worse than most congresses and administrations of the past.
(well, with a few exceptions, like the abusive congresses of the reconstruction era, tamed only by Grant's somewhat decent demeanor, or FDR's disgusting internment of 1942, or Lincoln's war-time abuses...)
sorry, man, but it's darn hard to relax about such things when the right-wing media continues to pound "it's all clinton's fault" and other such unsubstantiated nonsense 24/7.
