...when I realize there's more talk about tomorrow's "Talk Like a Pirate Day" than yesterday's 219th birthday of the U.S. Constitution (and its official observance today).

well, one, that's so last week :)

Well, they tried "Talk Like a Founding Father" day, but they found that people enjoyed saying things like "shiver me timbers" and "arrrr!" more than they enjoyed walking around all day saying "fourscore" and "whensoever" and writing "f" instead of "s."

Yup... and the 5th graders looked great in the shirts they made (well most of them at least).

So glad I picked a blue outfit for the day at least :-)

Joe, if it makes you feel better, at least they talk about it a *little* in the schools. Then again, we've got no choice there, thanks to legislation that ties up money if we don't...

Das Kind came home with a few papers explaining what the Constitution is, and a few of the things in it. I took it as a good point to continue the discussions he and I have been having at night. Along with reading books and saying our prayers, the nighttime routine has includee me teaching him "Press, religion, assembly, speech, petition, Two - bear arms, Three - no soldiers, . . ." :) I am trying to raise my little radical right. (Not radical right, just radical, right? oh, nevermind.) And yes, if you catch me not "in character", I can rattle off and explain all 27, thanks to my awesome seventh grade History teacher, Mrs. Hopkins. :)
