Everything about this weekend was supposedly to be nyeah, whatever, yada yada...
  1. we were supposed to see my cousin
  2. we were supposed to see [livejournal.com profile] faireraven 's cousins, whom i'd never met before (and she hadn't seen in 20 years so who only knows if there would have been anything to talk about...)
  3. we really had a lot to do around the house
  4. we still have a lot to do around the house
  5. i have plenty of work-related projects i could be working on
  6. we found out only 1 week before that my cousin would be out of town.
  7. we found out only 2 days before that [livejournal.com profile] faireraven 's cousins would be out of town, so much for that reason to go
  8. we really don't have the money to spend at a renfaire on a weekend, between flights, hotel, car, admission, debts we're already trying to pay off, and of course, the work status
  9. we have 2 other long-distance flight trips coming up in the next 3 weeks, which are already causing me to miss fav events like Potomac Celtic Festival, as well as costing way too much
  10. renfaires in the summer always give me sunburns i really don't need
it was supposed to, absolutely intended to, be a weekend that would just plain suck.

so naturally, it didn't.

not one bit.

GARF is now on my checklist of faires seen and faires to return to, and its a beauty.  very strong musically (though more anachronistic and filk-like than MDRF would permit, but there's room for all), the musketteer and cardinals' guards are hilarious, the tea room rules, the open-attitude pub-sing is great, and southeastern-u.s. otters rock.  all of you.

thanks to my wife for nagging me into going.  i thought she was going to owe me big time for this.  i owe her, now.  thanks to everybody there for proving her point.

g'nite.

new friends disclaimer: to anybody who adds me as of meeting me, welcome! but i do warn you i'm politically active (a flaming moderate, which in the current climate makes me look more liberal than i'd like to believe, and extremely pro-science/anti-ID/anti-religion-in-politics), and am an extreme geek (though I keep my java/linux/web design rantings on another blog).

btw, yes, we spent way too much money.  but both of us now have the last boots we'll ever buy...maybe. ;-)

btw2 - i didn't sunburn (darn close, though).  thanks again to my wife nagging me on putting the sunscreen on every morning.

color me green with envy. Obviously, I'll have to add GARF to the "soon" list.

You simply must! It is my second home faire and it provides much more of an opportunity to interact with friends seen all too rarely. Ya'll come!

Georgia is beautiful and has a lot of fun stuff. I want to go back at some point (and hit the 6 Flags there again ... *sigh*)

Wow... I haven't gotten on the Mind Bender since I was 12... Damn, I should have actually snagged a day at the six flags... ;)
