LiveScience.com - Cell Phones Make Many Americans Frustrated Liars:
Parents give to their teens: call it age 13-17. Thus, the 18-29 example is directly irrelevant. Indirectly, it harms their case.
Consider the liars among the whole is "nearly a quarter": 24% rounded. Then consider that the 18-29 range is the large majority of cell owners. So you have an average of 24% that is obviously skewed higher by the higher numbers& higher liars 18-29 range. Thus, its highly likely that the 13-17 range would have to be below that 24% for the averages to work out. The teens may actually be MORE honest than "responsible adults".
I expect better from LiveScience when they write their own (as opposed to just pressing an AP story).
In addition, this is the only paragraph that actually talks about lying; the rest just talk about other bad habits, so the headline is misleading as well.
Parents often give cell phone to their teens so they can stay in touch. Yet nearly a quarter of cell owners say they are not always truthful about exactly where they are, and 39 percent of cell users ages 18-29 lie about that.Ok, they talk about parents and children relations, with the obvious intent of implying that it might not be working, yet the two facts they give are mostly irrelevant to the impression they want to give, and in fact defeats their purpose.
