Empire: Movie News:
“I think the problem is that Harry can be seen to come across as quite petulant in the book, and I don’t actually think that’s the case,” [Daniel Radcliffe] explained. “I think when JK Rowling puts things in capital letters I don’t think that necessarily means he’s shouting. It could just refer to the sort of energy behind what he’s saying. I think that’s one of the things that people object to about the book, is that they don’t want a manic-depressive superhero.” Both he and Heyman assure us that Harry will not be just a petulant teen in the film version.

What're they talking about--of course he's shouting! I actually liked that aspect of OOTP, that even our little superhero can be a three-ring brat. Flawless heroes are boring; I hope Heyman remembers that.

films are not novels.

the point being that you can READ and imagine that but it simply will not work on film. It will look very flat, very two-dimensional, and seriously interfere in the many other aspects of a movie that make a scene succeed or fail.

he'll have his yelling moments, but without more contrast, the film won't work.

I had the thought that at least some of the rants in there were done as low-level, intense, growls between teeth type communication.

We'll see.
