Is there anybody else out there who, after Abu Grabe and 9/11, are hearing Bush say "I take responsibility" and actually hear the add-on "and I and my cabinet are working very hard to determine exactly which low-level local and state administrators and coordinators will be fired for this so that nobody at the top actually loses their head or their career over this." ?

sorry if i'm just being a BIT cynical, but when Bush's attitude is "The Buck Stops Here", it seems to mean "so I can use it to pay off someone else to take the fall."

After 6 years, there is not a single word I hear him say that I can think that even he *might* believe what he's saying.  Except when he talks about Intelligent Design over evolution; there I *know* he has no clue what he's talking about.

What ticks me off is that it's just words. Word do not equal responsibility. When somebody is responsible for foul deeds, they provide adequate restitution, or accept punishment. Sure, the federal government is working to clean up the mess, and to provide some measure of support to the people left injured or homeless. But how much is our president doing personally? If he is claiming personal responsibility, I want to know that he is personally affected, not just throwing words around.

When was the last time you saw a corporate CEO admit that despite the hard work of his employees, his bad decisions had cost the company millions?

All big wigs make mistakes. Most of them make nothing but mistakes. And their mistakes cost millions. And lives. Part of being a big wig is rigging the game so that you can't be held responsible. W is no different than any other president we've ever had.

Responsible men don't go far. They get passed by less scrupulous sorts while they're paying their dues.
