Maureen Dowd: About the judge's memory lapses, Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican, drolly noted, "And I hope you'll understand if any of us come before a court and we can't remember Abramoff, you'll tend to believe us."

as a matter of balance or "equal time" or "teach the controversy" or any other bullshit reason, I say this:

As long as "teaching ID" means "repeating the same lies, falsehoods, and easily-discredited evidences against evolution", then teaching ID should not be done in schools regardless of what subject matter the class is.

We taxpayers pay enough to politicians to lie to us (and in court, as Dover, PA showed).  we shouldn't be also paying them to lie to our kids.

A school district in california is now getting sued by putting a supposed ID class on the electives list as a class of "philosophy", as if by calling it philosophy, they can pass the muster of inserting religion into schools.  This is, of course, bullshit.

Interesting facts:
  • the class will include evidences against evolution that come from the creation-science playbook, like discrediting carbon dating and other age-of-the-earth data.
  • the class will be taught not by a teacher of science or philosophy, but by a special education teacher who has a background as a P.E. coach.
  • the class will include seeing as many as 19 video tapes that all come from organizations with a fundamentalist religious focus, including young-earth-creation believers and their lies about the grand canyon (the same group that has the book published that was for sale in the canyon visitors center)
  • the one true scientist on the guest speaker list had never agreed to participate and insists he wouldn't; the other true scientist on the guest list died in 2004.
I thought the Dover disclaimer statement read by administrators (since the biology teachers refused to read it) was bullshit, but this just takes the cake.  A "teacher" who's job it is to flip video tapes and deflect honest criticism while the kids get indoctrinated in the beliefs of fundementalists, all on the taxpayer's dime, and all supposedly legal since its called "philosophy".

No wonder our kids generally suck compared to the rest of the world.
