Every year, there's a christmas song (I don't even qualify them as carols anymore, especially the modern "rock" songs that have replaced traditional christmas carols of old victoria) that becomes inescapable in that I am stuck hearing it at least 3 times a day simply by changing locations to one that hasn't played it until I get there.

This year that song of no escape is "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", Brenda Lee, 1958.

I'm about 10 blood-pressure points away from violence upon hearing that song again.  Consider yourselves warned...

The House attached it to a completely unrelated bill (on defense spending) that was guarenteed to pass.  The head of the committee that got it through just happens to be from Alaska.

Why not NOW, when the abuse is so obvious, aren't the republicans clammoring for that absolutely essential line item veto that they were pushing so hard back in the 80's?

(not that it would matter in this instance, as the "president" has been trying to get alaska destroyed for the money since he arrived...)

update: protests by democrats got the measure taken off before a final vote.

It turns out that most of those boxes that are meant to be taking pictures of toll-booth-runners (especially in the smart-tag only lanes) are actually empty and thus people have been running through the booths with impunity?  they won't get filled with real cameras for a few months from now, and they actually said that on WTOP, thus inviting people to run the booths.

sheesh...when you have something that revealing and inviting to criminals, mr government man, do yourself a favor and keep your damn trap shut.
