(and no, none of my republican friends have ever stated this, but I hear it and read it all the time in blog comments, usenet discussions, etc etc) -- this is paraphrased, blending together the words into a single sentiment:

"Those brave men and women are out there fighting for your right to free speech and to have the opinions you have, so you better shut up and stop criticising our president who's leading the troops." (with about one in 3 insulting the recipient as being unpatriotic at this point)

In the last 5 months, i've seen or heard something along those lines at least once every week, or more often than that.

Hey Joe-


As one of those who have served, I have two things to say:


  • Those people have watched Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson too much (sleep under the very blanket of freedom which I provide).
  • I would also say that the word freedom implies tolerance of other political point of views (even Republican POV)
