This article describes the situation that epitomizes why I can't stand those who take church dogma as an absolute in spite of Christ's every word to the contrary. The communion happens solely on the faith of the recipient and has nothing to do with the exact materials consumed. Is a communion any weaker because an alcoholic chooses (and some churches only offer) grape juice and not wine? So why does the grain matter?

Christ is present in the act of Communion as a result of faith, not food. If you believe that Christ is not present because there was no wheat, then your faith is weak and lacking, not the child whose faith seems absolute.

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men's faces."

And here it was, I thought they kept saying, "The body of wheat."

Catholic doctrine...specifically the beleif in transubstanciation, says that the bread and wine turns into the blood and body of christ during the ceremony, ,which Catholocism considers a miracle. Not symbolically, it actually BECOMES the true body and blood of christ(whom you then honor by eating him---no wonder i'm a recovering Catholic). so, if the miracle was performed on her Eucharist made of rice, then it is no longer made of rice, according to the Church's own doctrine, so what the hell does it matter what material it was made out of?

i heard that story on the news the other night. i was pretty surprised, actually. i thought it was absolutely ridiculous.

it's the symbolism. i agree with the other poster who said in essence that it was the blessing that made the bread a symbol of the body and not the physical substance.

afterall, it doesn't say in the Bible, "here is a church-sanctioned wheat-substance bread wafer broken for you."

what a crock.

"If her faith is strong enough she won't have a reaction, so sayeth The Lord. If her faith isn't strong enough, well fuck her for not believing in Our Father like she should. Hey it worked in Salem, didn't it?" -- the Pope at a recent television interview.

*le sigh*

I abhor the narrow thinking that makes people exclude people from His presence. They are so convinced they are absolutely right. Makes me very sad.

Would that their eyes could be opened and they could *see*. They are missing everything.

Hopefully, the excluded ones will discover that they can have His presence without all the hooey, and will not be prevented. Unfortunately, with formal dogma, buy-in often equals blinders.

Like i said, makes me very sad.

Oh, WAY TO GO JOE!

::::APPLAUSE!!!::::

Faith is in the heart, the soul, the spirit, the mind...but *never* in physical props.

God is in life...not in the distractions from it.
