Hollywood star John Malkovich has landed a starring role in the next Harry Potter movie, playing evil Lord Voldemort. The Dangerous Liaisons actor's daughters Amandine, 13 and Lowrie, 12 - huge fans of the fantasy franchise - convinced him to appear in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. But he will have to share the part with a computerized puppet - at the beginning of the film, the wizard is supposed to be so wasted by his own evil he is barely a skeleton. A movie insider says, "He is perfect for the role. He will play the 'restored' human version of Lord Voldemort and has a spectacular fight scene with Harry at the end of the film." Mike Newell has taken on directing duties on the fourth Potter picture, which recently began shooting. -- source: IMDB's news of the day.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's true, he'd "fit" at any rate, as I'd heard several weeks ago that the filming had already started for it (and, BTW, they announced there will be no Quidditch scenes, and the Dursleys won't show in it either... though apparently the three actors who have been playing the Dursleys are hoping that might change (at least one of them has volunteered to do it cheap or free... can't remember which of those, think it was Uncle Vernon)).

It'll be interesting to see how they cut the book. The original theory that they might do it in two parts just wouldn't work the way the plot was done... but there's no way that everything would fit in even a 3 hour film IMHO.

well, the current idea is that they're just going to start w/ his arrival at the school, and probably hint at, through flashbacks or something, the deatheaters incident at the match in order to "introduce" them. By starting at the school, the whole quidditch match was cut, and the contest means there's no quidditch in the school year itself.

i'm more mad with them trimming down the importance of the quidditch thing in #3 to the point that oliver wood's character got cut out entirely. a couple of 10-second cameo-type appearances wouldn't have hurt the movie, and actually would have helped the series as a whole.

That's actually one of the problem's i'm seeing in how the movies are developing. by changing directors, each film is being built almost from the ground up as an independent thing, to the point that unlike Star Wars or LOTR, they don't really *fit* together as a series. Its kinda like the star treks, where 2 and 4 really stick out compared to 3 and 5. they *feel* different, and it actually hurts the series over time.
