1. What do you have your browser start page set to?
my.yahoo.com. I keep my basic bookmarks there 'cause i log in from 5 or 6 different machines.
2. What are your favorite news sites?
favorite is relative. i don't particularly care for most of the mainstream media news pages, paricularly as they often change content without adding retractions or corrections the way a print newspaper generally does. i get headlines from my.yahoo.com, and if i need more info i go to the others.
3. Favorite search engine?
google, but only because the others have fallen so far behind they're useless these days. also because its integrated into mozilla/firebird reasonably nicely.
4. When did you first get online? Why?
bitnet in 1988, 'cause bitnet usage was one of those things all the cool kids (nerds, this was B.G., before "Geek") had to have back in the 80s.
JMU got limited internet by 1990, and I had mosaic and was surfing the (then still rather limited) www on my decstation by 1992. I only used the 'net at work until I got a laptop in late 1998 and earthlink. Only just got real high-speed @ home about 3 months ago or so.
Why? It seemed pretty nifty, and much easier to set up and use than gopher systems were at the time. Sir Tim emphasized that simplicity was the key to its success; I think he's right.
5. How do you plan to spend your weekend?
Southern Maryland Celtic Fest saturday. Team Wench / MS Fantasy Ball planning meeting sunday morning, followed by The MS Walk in Annapolis.

Date: 2004-04-23 09:13 pm (UTC)And you still make me feel old... I started chatting over Bitnet and a bit on ARPAnet in early '84. :-P ... before the first CB program showed up. (think there was a third net that UMCP was hooked up to, but Bitnet took most of the traffic)
