"That's cool ... but I don't know who CARY GRANT is."

-- Actor FRANKIE MUNIZ, 18, after being told that a critic had described him as "the Cary Grant of kid stars," quoted in the New York Daily News.

I'm almost of the impression that the only black and white these kids have ever seen has been Young Frankenstein and the commercials for Schindlers List.

Even Giligan doesn't count -- Turner and Co (TBS) colourized them all years ago...

That's cool, but I had to struggle to remember who Frankie Muniz is. The kid on Malcolm in the Middle, right? I've yet to see that show ... is it still on?

I could have sworn that the original pilot for Gilligan's Island wasn't colorized the last time around that I saw it... and that was within the last 4-5 years.

I'll also admit that I've seen enough B&W movies that sometimes the faces of the stars tend to blur together (male or female... though I can keep track of *that* much at least :-) Cary Grant's one of the ones I have to think about for a while (I'm much better with the musical folks)

I think it just depends on what station/network you saw it on and what contract they had with the distributor. I have seen it both ways in recent years.

Okay, don't shoot me! I feel like this is the only thing that was colorized that looks great! Of course, they had the original color palette to work from. Season One was the only one in Black-and-White. The other two were in color.

The other thing about the original Black-and-White prints of Season One...the theme song was slightly different. The first pilot (never aired) had two characters instead of the "Professor" and "Mary-Ann" so the song didn't mention them by name.

I wonder if the first season clothing colors were the same as in the color-seasons. Some colors work better in black-and-white than others, and they may have changed the colors to be more vivid after the first season. For some characters (like Ginger) the costumes kept changing so it didn't matter, but the Skipper and Gilligan had those bright colors throughout. Gotta wonder why their shirts never faded after all those years on that island...
