Some swear by Coke made south of the border - wtop.com:
You're probably familiar with the flavor of the most famous soft drink in the world: Coca Cola. But some people insist a version of the soda that's hard to find around here tastes better than the rest.

Most Coke sold in the U.S. is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup, but bottlers in Mexico still use cane sugar. The majority of American bottlers switched away from cane sugar in the 1980s.

The Coca-Cola Co. says there's no noticeable difference in taste between the two, while fans of Mexican Coke beg to differ.
And so does this American Coke fan, who gets some of the sugar cane stuff every passover (they talk about that in the article) and every time he leaves the country to go to Europe and the UK.

Now, given the general habit changes by the diet, just 'cause it might make it on the stores more often doesn't mean I'm rushing out to buy tons.  It's still calorie-laden for little reason.

Mexican coke is superior, but what is even better is Coca-cola made Manzana Lift. (apple flavored soda--kind of like sparkling cider but not as sweet) There was talk a few years back of bringing it up to the US, but it doesn't seem to have caught on. I'm a little bitter.

along the lines of the carbonated lemonade the brits have which nobody in America has tried to market yet.

There's at least one small bottler/canner who has. I *know* we've had it in the house in the past year, but not where I stumbled across it. I was *very* surprised... though the carbonation was closer to the big US bubbles than the European 'fizz' (not quite, but somewhere in between).

There was an apple soda here several years ago (Apple Slice maybe?) that was very tasty. Crisp tasting, not too sweet, nearly clear but a hint of golden color.

Welch's had an Apple back around 1980, at least in California.

Mexican Coke tastes like Coca-Cola's supposed to taste.

Pepsi is bringing back "Throwback" for a slightly longer period this Christmas. Made with sugar, not HFCS. :-)

Yes it will. Which, IMHO, is better than HFCS sodas.

I thought Coke in Europe also used sugar. I swear that Icelandic sodas taste better because they use spring water.

i said that European coke uses sugar - i drink it in the UK, and did so in Italy a year ago, too. (when i needed a break from the wine!). but European-made coke doesn't show up in the states. :)

We get the regular sugar Coke when we go to Ireland, and IMHO it is vastly superior for flavor, I wish I could get it here but you know how we in the US adore our high fructose corn syrup...

OH YES YES YES!
Coke in australia uses cane sugar. And the coke using HFCS that I drank in the US was bloody awful in comparison (in that I a) wasnt used to it and b) much preferred real sugar).

But I can say that of most of the foods I ate that had HFCS in it. I really REALLY prefer sucrose over fructose as a sweetener. I can understand the use of HFCS in the US (I mean how many corn fields are there over there, compared to how many cane sugar fields there are here so yeah, duh) but when it comes to taste, sugar for me any day :D

I had a Coke in France while on vacation there this year. The Coke in Europe uses less sugar and tastes even better than a Mexican Coke. No kidding.
