The Day I Learned What Courage Was : The Questionable Authority:
On June 5th, 1989, the world got to see exactly what courage is. One man, in a white shirt and dark pants, carrying shopping bags, faced down a company of tanks. The whole world saw the images of his simple courage. His name and his fate remain a mystery - all that is known about his entire life is what he did for a few brief minutes on one terrible day.
Annoying that thanks to Obama's early morning speech (to our time zone, anyways) in Cairo, that the tv news magazines totally ignored this anniversary...

I've been hearing about the anniversary of Tienanmen all week. Perhaps no one thought it was necessary to call out this particular piece by itself.

they mentioned it on the CBS morning show. i was eating breakfast when they said it, so there are people talking about it.

the ultra-ironic thing? they showed the Chinese Army marching around, gearing up to patrol the area to "stifle any memorial commemorating the event."

i had a little catch in my heart after hearing that.

so basically, they learned nothing. i can only hope the rest of the world learned something, but i think the rest of the world only learned something about the Chinese. :(

For all things Tieneman and Cairo, I watched the BBC World News Report. They covered both most all day.
