But it's not. It is about control. There is no ABSOLUTELY NO Biblical justification for this.

Pharyngula: They have a conscientious need to control your ovaries:
If you want to see the consequences of the recent wave of attempts to endorse "provider conscience rules", in which health care providers are permitted to freely exercise their whims and biases in providing clients and patients their services, read this story. As usual, it's all about controlling the reproductive choices of women: we've had politicians blocking access to Plan B contraception; laws that would allow doctors to deny care if it was against their religious beliefs; and pharmacists who refuse to fill birth control prescriptions. Beyond simply passive denial of giving a patient what they need, though, we now have gone to the next step: wingnuts actively removing birth control devices against the patient's will. Nurse practitioner Sylvia Olona of the Presbyterian Health Services Rio Rancho Family Health Center in New Mexico has been taking it upon herself to yank out the IUDs of patients in her care.It really has become clear to me: If the only way to express "Love Your God" is to show hate in any form to your neighbor, you're not loving God.

If you are a pharmacist or the like, I'm really not interested in your opinion on my prescriptions -- just do your little job and fill it, or I WILL hold you accountable for your lack of competence, professionalism and customer service. [Sorry -- little personal rant there, not directed at any one individual in particular, least of all you.]
If ethics prevent you from doing your job, find a different profession.

Date: 2009-01-21 04:27 pm (UTC)The wingnuts like to go on about how 'we're all known to god' before we are born but they cite passages about how X or Y person was 'known' by god (Jesus for example) before they were born as though that matters in the slightest. Jesus was obviously a special case in which the presumed plan was for him to exist so knowing about him would be assumed anyway but special cases would not translate to the general populace anyway. There's also the notion that assuming this being exists, it's state of omniscience would mean that it 'knows' all of us before we were born and knows our ultimate fate long before that and yet there are untold millions of children who die every day for lack of clean water and other easily preventable causes so that argument is entirely irrelevant. How do these people even know that their god didn't want these fetuses aborted in the first place? To presume you know the mind of god is the sin of hubris because you don't know gods mind and you can't. You can only make assumptions based on your own beliefs and your interpretation of the bible.
As far as this latest batch of nonsense, you've got wingnuts trying to remove birth control from a woman's list of choices because they claim it somehow interferes with 'gods plan'. As though if god really wants a woman to be pregnant a little tiny piece of plastic or a sheath of latex is suddenly going to thwart the plans of a being that can sneeze and create a universe. Like their god is some impotent Scooby Doo villian who is going to say "Damn! I really wanted Marianne to be pregnant and it would have worked too if it weren't for your meddling condoms!" It's ridiculous reasoning and it's an appeal to emotion for one purpose and one purpose only - control.
and facts are facts, if the Wingnuts were "all about the kids" as I have heard so many of them claim they wouldn't be acting one way in one case (OMG we must save teh fetus) and the complete opposite in another (OMG we have to BOMB Iran). It's bullshit. It's lies. It's dogma. It's hubris.
It would be one thing if they were doing it to themselves but the fact that they're trying to do it to everyone else is where the problem comes in.
There are two things I like to bring up any time one of these asshats brings up their 'right to conscience'. The first is if there was a Atheist pharmacist who refused to give a Christian a prescription because of his profoundly held beliefs that their religion was just an excuse for all the atrocities committed by Christians over the years the wingnuts would have a freaking bird and we wouldn't be discussing it at all - it just would't be allowed. The doctor would be receiving death threats by the pound, get the crap sued out of him for discrimination and probably have his license revoked. So why the hell should we be allowing Christian pharmacists to deny legally prescribed drugs for the same 'profoundly held' reasons?
The second is that there was a 12 boy named Deamonte Driver down here who died a few years back during the whole SCHIP fiasco that Republicans kept blocking. He died because his mother couldn't afford an $80 dental visit and the cavity that he had eventually became a full blown infection that made it's way up into his brain and killed him. The emergency department at the local hospital ran up over $100,000 in emergency surgery costs just trying to save his life and ultimately failed in the process. A 12 year old boy died because supposed compassionate conservatism let him die.
They don't give a damn about children. They care about control. Power and control and they will do anything necessary to capture and hold it including debase their own religion as a bargaining chip.
