Impotent paraplegic told: no church wedding - Unusual Tales - Specials:
An Italian bishop has reportedly told a young paraplegic he cannot have a church wedding because he is impotent, despite his fiancee being aware of the problem.

Salvatore de Ciuco, spokesman for Bishop Lorenzo Chiarinelli of Viterbo in central Italy, told SkyTG24 television: "No bishop, no priest can celebrate a wedding when he knows of admitted impotence as it is a motive for annulment" of the marriage.

The 26-year-old groom, who took part in a civil marriage ceremony on Saturday in Viterbo, has been paraplegic since he was involved in a car accident.
The Enlightenment: Why did we bother?

WWJD indeed...

We had the Enlightenment so that when the second Dark Age arrived we'd have something to aspire too.

Can you imagine where we'd be today if Rome got rid of the infighting and managed to keep it together until now? Or if someone had shanked Constantine in the bath or something? Hell the Egyptians had steam power. We'd probably already have a colony on Mars by now.

The thing is that a 'proper fertility specialist' with Good Christian Values will not do an insemination except from the properly married man into his wife. And yes, there are ways to collect from a paraplegic.

the point is that any view of marriage as being only to procreate and provide a "stable environment" for raising children is incredibly outdated and archaic and utterly against any vision of a "civilized" society that truly believes in the rights of the individual(s).

I don't care if they *can* make babies.

The point is that in an enlightened society, *nobody* should care if then can or even if they will, except the couple itself.
