Wow -- that's almost exactly what I said to Hubby after I read the headline. Sorry, Heston fans (I love Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments too) but hey -- he's the one who said that (in)famous line...
my reply to a "you guys must really hate him" post:
Actually, I didn't hate him, and actually found the delicious (non-)irony of him as an ape teaching the other apes about guns (in Burton's vision of Planet of the Apes) quite entertaining.
I disagree that any gun law is a 2nd amendment threat, as well as with the NRA position that any law that isn't challenged will inevitably (slippery-slope fallacy) lead to more restrictive gun laws later. Like with *every* proposed violation of our constitutional rights, it will always end up in the courts on a case-by-case basis, and the courts will never be totally consistent over time because even the law is really a fashion statement as much as any other part of culture and society.
He and his friends defend guns and the 2nd amendment. I believe it is still necessary to defend it, even though there are many who have forgotten its intended purpose and should be reminded of it along the way.
I only wish that they would show the same passion for the other 9 amendments (and their intentions) as well.
I cracked the joke 'cause it was an easy one to crack.
