I've got a problem where thanks to one program or another, my media file suffixes are all mapping to the same "action" and it won't let me change one (.mp3) without changing the default action and icon for another (.avi).  Nothing I can do through the windows GUI seems to be able to detach them and I'd *really* rather not go digging through the registry to fix it.

Any ideas?

Right click the file in question, or a file of that type, and go to Properties. Under General tab, first section down is Opens With, and you can hit Change to change this type of file to open with another application.

Hope that was the answer to the right question.

ok, that seemed to get it. .mp3 and .avi do different things now.

thanks!

Windows still sucks.

Step one... unplug computer.
Step two... walk over to window.
Step three... open window
Step four... Throw computer out the window. (Go for distance)

Problem solved!

Nice thing about having 40 users on Windows. I get to see how they've screwed things up today in 40 different flavors.

Always something new.

I was about to type the same thing as kiltboy, but I figured I should read the comments first incase the solution was posted.
