Sorry, guys, but there are PLENTY of things that are part of a nation's "cultural heritage" that we can say belong in the past. These include things like racism in America (especially in the South), antisemitism in Germany and Austria, caste-based repression in India, apartheid in South Africa, unrestricted logging in France and Brazil, ...
At a certain point, you have to look to some parts of your past and say, "NO MORE". We don't need to "preserve" this heritage, we need to let it go and move forward.
