While the BBC are going forward with a flash-animated audio story with a new actor (Richard Grant, who was in the parody Curse of the Fatal Death), and getting our hopes up by making announcements that some Welsh division has the rights to go forward with new Who on TV, the real anniversary has been going on at Big Finish Productions, where they united in a single 3-CD story just about every single person who's played on their audio shows, including the last 4 doctors, most of their respective companions, plus all the "new" companions they've brought into the series (some of whom, like Lisa Bowerman, were Dr. Who actors themselves during the show's run).

There's a wonderful set of pictures from the recording sessions available. Yes, the various doctors are getting old, and only McGann could probably reprise his role on screen...but on the radio, the voice and your memories and imagination make it all work.

The Big Finish shows are great. I got 3 of the early ones for my mom back when we were in the UK, plus the 4 freebies that come with the Dr. Who magazine I've been collecting since 1985, and like them all. Colin Baker, the least popular Doctor on TV, has come across as the strongest Doctor on audio, surprising a lot of long-time fans...of course, not having to actually SEE the silly outfit does sometimes help, but so does the better scripts and (more importantly) script editing than what Eric Saward was throwing at us.

Shame there are so many cds to get, it really makes it hard to decide which ones to get that my mom would like...
