Is the Las Vegas Review Journal actually saying there was a time when a Britney Spears performance wasn't lacking in substance?

Hey celebrity news gossip column shitheads out there: we tired of this train wreck 10 years ago. Get over it. There's a reason the "boy band reunion" show failed - if you're marketted for being solely a young, exploitable sex symbol (rather than, say, a real musician) than you are shite out of luck when you are no longer marketable as said sex symbol (because you're, hint hint, NO LONGER SEXY).  sheesh.

So get out there and find someone else's career and life to ruin instead of showing us one you've already destroyed.  I hear Vanessa Hudgens is auditioning...

nomoretoast and I were speaking of this just last night, too. Ms. Spears has officially reached the "spat out" stage of her show business career --in other words, the system has used her up and is ready to consume the next target. And there's a brief --VERY brief-- moment of pity for the kid, which flares out as quickly as it came.

However, the "scoop'em-up-exploit-and-spit-out" system CAN be circumvented, as the career of Billie Piper has so ably demonstrated. She could have very easily parlayed her bubblegum-pop image into an extremely bankable sex symbol and been the undisputed queen of the tabloid press for awhile, but she figured out a way around that and is now well on her way to a distinguished acting career.

So my moment of pity for Ms. Spears is there, but it's BRIEF.
