In neither the DC101 nor the Howard Stern pages on Wikipedia does it actually mention the joke that actually got him fired.  Stern's page doesn't mention his firing at all, and DC101's just says "disagreement with management", as it was fictionalized in Stern's movie and book (apparently, the authors used Stern's movie as an accurate history, which it isn't.).

The Air Florida Flight 90 page does mention Stern's joke, but not that it's what got him fired (which I agree with - it's not relevant there).

Update - sorry, meant to mention this was specifically looking up the references on Wikipedia, not the official websites of anything mentioned here.  'Cause yeah, it's not like the official pages would mention anything about that incident if they could avoid it.

So what was the joke that got him whacked?

I know the Greaseman firing joke @ 94.7, as I was listening when that one happened.

TASTELESS JOKES WARNING

On the air, he called up Air Florida's ticket line and asked how much would a one way ticket to the 14th street bridge cost.

Grease left my home town and WAPE (the "Big Ape") within a month to work for DC101 after that.

Now, which firing joke about Grease were you referring to? The "shoot 4 more and get the week off" (though that only got him suspended for a month), or the "no wonder they drag them behind trucks" (in reference to Lauryn Hill's god awful album)?

meant to imply - yeah, I was a Greaseman fan back in the 70s, while WAPE was the #2 pop-rock (no disco) station around (it was AM only, the #1 station was the FM pop-disco station).

From '82-'84 while I was back in Florida after my hiatus in California, WAPE was a country station, so I didn't bother with it anymore. And Grease had moved up north within a year of that return anyways.

It is mentioned on the "Howard Stern Show" article in connection with him getting fired, though there is a 5 month gap there.

ah - the page on the show, not the person. go fig.

and maybe there was a gap, but Grease was, from our perspective down in florida, already talking about the job "real soon" after the crash.

remember Wikipedia is in a large part edited by normal everyday people, not by anyone specifically associated with Air Florida, DC101, Howard Stern or anyone related to the said event. So don't be so surprised that its not mentioned on the there.

actually, my point is quite the opposite. On a lot of other entries, controversial topics (i.e., topics that aren't exactly flattering to the subject of the page) are usually there, because its possible for anyone to go add them rather than wait for some official to verify everything.

this set struck me as odd because it wasn't there, and that's an exception to wikipedia's usual form.
