Woman faces fines for wreath peace sign - Yahoo! News:
DENVER - A homeowners association in southwestern Colorado has threatened to fine a resident $25 a day until she removes a Christmas wreath with a peace sign that some say is an anti-Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan.

Some residents who have complained have children serving in Iraq, said Bob Kearns, president of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association in Pagosa Springs. He said some residents have also believed it was a symbol of Satan. Three or four residents complained, he said.
I don't know...I see this

and I'm sure that I feel offended...really.

I like it! Maybe it's time to put one up myself!

I certainly hope she fights it and that those goobers in her subdivision learn to deal with freedom of speech!

When they are in the news, I often feel that homeowners' associations themselves are symbols of Satan. The entitlement and power these groups of yabos feel over the appearance of their conformist, precious little neighborhoods seems absurd. There are times I am glad I rent and cannot really display anything external, period. Because the frustration of putting something up that seems okay to me and then having an opinion poll go against me, would be teeth-gritting.

You can have a peace symbol and *not* be making an anti-war statement. And anyone mistaking it for a symbol of Satan or just not knowing it by sight, either was born after the 60's and is a poor product of our modern schooling system or just selectively blind.

I thought it was a rather widely known symbol.

"Kearns ordered the committee to require Jensen to remove the wreath, but members refused after concluding that it was merely a seasonal symbol that didn't say anything. Kearns fired all five committee members."

Oh, isn't he a prize?

Someone should make him listen to the Yoko Ono part of "So this is Christmas" on a continuous loop until he kills himself.

It's reasons like this that make me want to NOT buy a house and just keep on renting. If I do ever buy a house, it's going to be in an area with out and HOA

I'm pretty upset to see that the entire board can be fired by its president, just because they don't agree with his feelings on a matter.

Yeah, tinpot dictator much? That raises a whole 'nother red flag.

In the meantime, just what carols are those anti-satanists going to be singing this holiday, I wonder? No Silent Night, not with the line "sleep in heavenly peace." No Harking Herald Angels with "Peace on Earth, goodwill to men." Ect.

If the president of the HOA can fire the rest of the board, it isn't a real HOA.

~sigh~ How many christmas/holiday cards have I gotten over the years that wish people love and peace in the holiday season?
Its just a symbolic wish for peace, its neither condoning nor condemning the current situation.
I feel for people with loved ones far away in dangerous situation. I know that their absence if felt most strongly during the holidays.
But someone must really be a few sandwiches short of a picnic to find this offensive.

I just had a thought ( thought something was burning in the office for a second ), I wonder if we could get the HOA's address and just start mass mailing postcards with the peace symbol on it to them. *LOL* Maybe intersperse some of them with the word "Peace". *EG*

If you have children serving in Iraq, wouldn't you want Peace so your children can come home?

Well, you know what the hymn says. Wonderful; counsellor; the mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Enforcing Your Simpleminded Prejudices Through Your Tinpot Authority.
