I am sardonically amused by the idea that wanting to commit to a long-term, monogamous relationship is "selfish." Rape is selfish. Using other people without concern for their feelings is selfish. Marriage is - well, not selfless, but symbiotic. Everyone in a good marriage gains from it, and so do their kids. As for damaging kids, even if gay parents _aren't_ equal to straights (not that I believe that), how's it going to benefit the kids of gay parents to take away the family stability they DO have? Not to mention the fact that there are a hell of a lot of clearly identifiable groups of people that obviously make _far_ worse parents than the average gay couple - drug addicts, the severely mentally ill, violent felons, convicted child abusers - and all of these are allowed to marry at will, as long as they're straight. It's people like him who are perfectly willing to damage the kids of gay parents, just so they can sit there happy in their smug knowledge that THEY and THEY alone have government's and God's approval for THEIR marriage. I have enough faith in the rightness of my choices, and my marriage, that I don't need the government to give me a Good Girl Sticker for choosing the "right" spouse.
