I just got CC'ed on an email requesting that because we have customers and clients on site as part of a large conference we're hosting, we refrain from participating in tomorrow's "talk like a pirate day", and specifically asking not to wear pirate costumes. I was the only employee not in HR (who also are involved in morale-boosting activities here @ the office) to have been CC'ed on that.
as if...
If i "dress up" at work, it'll be for halloween and a silly hat (usually a mad hatter or the Cat in the Hat style) on April 1, that's that. I am a *professional* to the point that I leave my rennie world behind me or just in my earphones or my LJ. Even as much as jeans and flannel aren't necessarilly "professional" by some standards, my garb is most certainly not. I am a performer and a player, but I keep my playing to the playgrounds it belongs on (faire, pub crawls, the PF, the MSFB, and this one time, at ren camp) and do not take it with me to work.
Even the halloween thing, i'm less likely to dress up in garb for that, given that I'd have worn my garb for the previous 9 weeks. Yes, i've done pirate stuff @ home on that holiday for the kids, in a pinch, but it's not my first choice if i have the time to do something more modern.
I personally have no interest or care for "TLAPD" at all and never have. I do enough this time of year to not need an additional "excuse", particularly with MDRF's own Pirate/Adventurer's weekend so close to it.

Date: 2006-09-18 03:28 pm (UTC)I like wearing garb, I enjoy it and I'm quite comfortable in it. That doesn't mean that I can't or won't dress appropriately for the occasion.
