People actually THINK like this?

The FBI Software Upgrade That Wasn't:
Does he realize how much worse the situation gets when, after telling the 4th amendment to go hang by listening in, then telling the 5th amendment to go hang by holding the detainee without due process, then when they finally do get out, they are just guarenteed to become REAL terrorists in revenge for the hateful treatment they went through?
And does he REALLY think that just because what they wiretap isn't about terrorists means they won't use that against you in some other way?
The point of all of this is that the administration has NEVER shown one example of how either the unconstitutional provisions embedded in the PATRIOT act, or the NSA warrentless wiretapping program, has caught or overted a single terrorist. Eventually, ALL actions done for the benefit of others require some actual EVIDENCE that its actually working, and merely going "well, we haven't been attacked yet" is NOT evidence, nor is bringing up examples of arrests that were done using other means besides the unconstitutional acts I name here.
In fact, the evidence is so far showing that the FISA warrent system WORKS JUST FINE, THANK YOU, and the NSA hasn't managed to catch a suicide bomber taking a shit yet.
You don't defeat an enemy for real by becoming them. You defeat them by showing those who would follow him how wrong they really are and how you aren't what they say you are.
Unfortunately, this administration has, after 25 years of trying to tell the 3rd world we aren't what they have said we are, turned us into EXACTLY what they say we are: military imperialists with an eye towards arrogantly remaking the world in our own image.
And that is NOT what we should be.

by Anonymous Coward on Friday August 18, @03:26PMIs this SERIOUS? Does he really think that its merely a matter of "due process" vs "people die" and that if that's the case, then "due process" and the whole of the rest of the constitution can just go hang?
This program is not used to investigate and prosecute people under the law. It is used to prevent terrorists from killing more people. There is a rather huge difference there. This is why conservatives say if you oppose warrantless wiretapping then you support terrorists. That is very literally what has happened. This judge has given terrorists their full support. They're not listening to you trying to set up your drug deal. They're not listening to you talk about how you molest you child. Even if they did hear those things they can't do anything about them. They're trying to save peoples lives and liberals are screaming for them to stop. It pisses me off beyond belief that so many liberals are fighting to help more people die from terrorists. You get pissed when civilians die while trying to kill terrorists but you could give a rats ass about the civilians that die from terrorists. Screw them, they don't count. Right?
This is why liberals get ignored and are viewed as utterly and completely out of touch with reality. You refuse to do your own research and blindly listen to anyone willing to tell you things that reinforce your fantasies, regardless of how much truth is in them.
