what a pisser.

doesn't the 'Post (or any business, for that matter) understand that in spite of the costs for experience, the experience is what gives the paper its character and a major reason many people even buy the damn thing?

there's already enough I used to read that's gone now (Bob Levy, for example) that drove me to going online-only in the first place. get rid of a few more of their best and there's no point in that, either.

yeah, its nice if it was just to "make room" for younger (and cheaper) writers who wouldn't be noticed in the shadows...but if its just to make room for cheaper stuff from the AP? I can read Yahoo to get the AP crap...

Bob Levey -- what a great guy.

He did fill-in talk-show host work on the radio at 'BAL when I was there in the early '90s. We watched the 'Skins-Buffalo Super Bowl in the newsroom together (back long years ago when I was a 'Skins fan...). Nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. Yep, I miss him too.

he spoke at a Robinson High School graduation ('93), talking about the Robinson '87 graduate that he "followed" through a monthly column of her college life over 4 years (roughly paralleling my own college life for a while). Since I myself had just gotten out of college in '93, it brought a nice closure to it all. Extremely eloquent...
