Not teaching evolution a matter of respect: school board - Yahoo! Canada News:
'Look, this is not the subject to be taught here in this town, or in this place, because we know we have been humans from the beginning, '" said Molly Tayara.

"I don't personally accept my children being taught that they came from some species from Africa somewhere.

"Here in the North there is no such thing as monkeys."

*sigh*

To quote Pharyngula, "We're sorry, Canada, we didn't know it was contagious."

The next time you and [livejournal.com profile] faireraven are out in Southern Cali, you might want to consider a visit to the Page Museum of Tar Pit Discoveries, on Wilshire Blvd. (http://www.tarpits.org). It's the La Brea Tar Pits museum, and you can also see the active excavation. When I bought my stuffed, plush smiledon I thought of you. :-)

well, now that's an idea...trouble being we're only there (in june, 8-13) friday, saturday, sunday, monday in june, with saturday and monday committed to disneyland, sandwiching a wedding on disney property on sunday.

friday was open, with 3 different directions we could go - east to friends near the old renfaire site, north-west to my former company's office to say high (least likely scenerio), north into LA-county tourism country (what you're suggesting), or south into San Diego (my kinda preference since Cyd's never seen it and I lived there for 2 years - i kinda want to show her Balboa Park, as well as drive by the airport so she can see the Carriers across the bay).

but its a thought...

there won't be another Volcano erupting there, will there? ;-) (movie reference one)

"Shot 'em right into the Stone Age" -- Captain Wild Bill Kelso
"General, we just received word that a plane crash-landed in the La Brea tar pits" -- Adjunct to General Stillwell
(movie reference two - 1941 - the better jokes in that film are far more subtle than critics can comprehend)

Didn't happen while *we* were visiting, but they might be saving up. ;-)

Hmm, need to post our Disney entries. You *might* learn something (though I doubt it).

north-west to my former company's office to say high
*snerk* No comment. I'll leave it all to your imagination.
