what i want on dvd...
May. 16th, 2006 09:19 amSo, Earth 2 and Space: Above and Beyond are out, as I said, so pretty much aside from a few specific Dr. Who episodes and the other muppet seasons (Muppets and Fraggle Rock), I've pretty much decided the only 2 dvd "TV" shows I want (under the knowledge that WKRP will never be released...) are:
Adventures of Briscoe County, Jr.- July 18th!- Max Headroom

Date: 2006-05-16 02:18 pm (UTC)WKRP used real contemporarly rock pieces as its bumpers and background music in the "studio"/booth. Each of those pieces of music needs to be independently licensed for "sale" on the dvd since its a different medium from an audio-only recorded work. this makes the process time-consuming and expensive, and as the muppets showed, can result in some companies being rediculous holdouts for more money than it deserves and will blackmail them by refusing to license the tracks.
the whole process would make "Season 1" cost about $99 which is out of the price-point for tv comedy seasons (which is $39 or less).
the standard record company complaints apply: for all the "we're doing it for the artist" crap the record labels spout during this bullshit negotiation phase, they have no accounting means for handling this kind of license back to the artist - the labels keep all the money.
