pirate weekend bullet-list

actually having a few notes to say, lest i myself forget them...
faireraven.
speaking of which, no, i don't know where she is, and i know that she'll be at our sets when they start (though she was *almost* late to our 12noon set sunday...oops), so quit asking me.
oh, and really good news was our E.D. giving us approval for doing two "odd" things in the upcoming weeks. on sunday the 9th, we'll be performing in the reception at the dragon in that follows the mass renewal of vows ceremony for "couples" day of romance weekend. and on closing sunday, be on the lookout for a small impromptu "danse macabre" parade roaming the streets near the white hart around 530pm...
this year, we're doing a "day of wrong" that is absolutely right.
oh, and finally, between dust, decent singing, and talking like a pirate for 2 days, i have no voice today and no amount of pseudofed + honey/coffee is helping yet.
- 2 very good sets on saturday
- 2 incredibly fantastic sets on sunday, one of which was witnessed by the assistant director, the other just full of *kids* playing along.
we never intended to become a "kids act", but we certainly don't regret it, either. at least when they're honest, unlike the drunks of the white hart (who seem to only be honest when they're drunk), kids are never (intentionally) rude about it. - good corsairs sets, especially sunday market stage
nothing like seeing Roy (ex- Sir Nicholas Carew) on stage singing "oogaba oogaba oogaba" in Cannibal Islands. :) - great pubsings (drunks on sunday not-withstanding. especially the jackass regular yelling at Tom Plott to "get the F' out of the way" (less censored than i was), when Tom was doing a very necessary job of being the spotter for the Angels). I was actually quite proud of myself in my singing and leading on saturday (and sunday's wild rover for mickey hooligan, we beat the "drunken bastards" side again!)
- Regan made it! (insert kermit the frog going "YAY!" here)
- Skum's Henry the "V" is extremely tight and flowing wonderfully. best i'd seen them do it so far, and probably their best "recent" show (meaning show built up since this current lineup became stable).
- there's nothing like being a grown man, in stripey-socks, with bells on, shaking a tambourine, that just makes one go "oh what the hell, nobody else can embarrass me today!". i have to admit that being in "pirate" garb is extremely liberating when it comes to talking to kids and keeping interactions up.
- reminiscing with Tee Morris (author and former faire performer), with stories going back to the late 80s and our college theater days
- great crowds, best of the season so far, thanks to fantastic weather (especially saturday). not sure we broke 20k (cast call didn't give us the numbers), but i'd surmise we at least broke 18.5k saturday and probably 17k sunday.
- pirate's @ gate show was much smaller than usual, given that the # of performing pirates was down to just corsairs and royale -- ship's company had a gig elsewhere, so they couldn't join in, and as known we don't get the crimson's for another few weeks. result of which is there wasn't much for me to do, so i didn't bother doing anything.
- we got "lucky" in that the angels weren't by the info booth during our sets, but there were conflicts between them and some of the other groups of "section A" (as we call it) -- we as performers may have been directly aware of assignments, but the patrons sometimes looked at the other acts as interfering with the angels rather than the other way around. it'll probably come down to the E.D. directly assigning when the Angels are in the air rather than the freedome of timeslots they currently have.
- oh, and as mentioned it was drunken-awareness-weekend #2, and that pirates is replacing scottish as the "loudest" drunks of the season (damn we had some doozies on sunday).
