"Women who choose abortion have their morality questioned. Women who choose to put a baby up for adoption have their maternal instincts questioned, and women who carry an unplanned pregnancy to full term when unmarried or financially insecure are often labeled irresponsible." -- Thomas R. Suozzi, Nassau County executive (and Democrat and Catholic)

And rarely does anyone ask where the dad is in any of these scenarios.

Unless you live in the house with the white picket fence and a yellow lab in the front yard, someone, somewhere will question your right to procreate (or not, as the case may be). :(

trouble being, the same judgemental people who criticize a woman for those 3 scenerios will just as rapidly and voraciously criticize a woman for choosing not to have kids at all, especially when in a strong marriage.

its a rediculous case of "live your life OUR way or don't live near me".

i always like to recall that the "sanctity of marriage" states all have the highest divorce rates. makes me feel warm and cosy, that.

exactly. Nothing like hiding behind religion or "morals" as a badge to be sanctimonious a*holes.

Seems a theme for the religious rights politics in general...the whole "don't cloud the issues with facts" kinda thing.

And yeah...I am *always* fascinated to see *Mothers* desparaged when no one seems to give a rats ass about the abandonment rate by Fathers.

As I see it, abandoning a woman pregnant with your child is worse than abortion. Just my take after having watched what abandonment has done to my own daughter.

well, keep in mind the Scott Peterson case which shows an alternative the asshole population (that happens to tragically share my gender but little else) has come up with in recent years.

Point taken...

But, I am glad to say, not an option that the public is glossing over the way they have other issues involving spousal abuse.

FWIW, Joe...most women know there are good men left in the world. We can tell the difference.

By the way...I think you'll make an awesome Dad one day...

And if you want to buy birth control your morality is also questioned (whether or not the BC is for health reasons like some uses of the Pill are OR you are 'legally married').

*sigh*

Can we please castrate (not vasectomize, castrate) them all?e

It's very simple. You're supposed to choose eternal celibacy. Sex is icky, and anything that results from sex is of suspect morality, because it involves pleasure to the material body.

One should simply learn to deny oneself anything that gives pleasure in this life, because God doesn't like you actually enjoying the gifts S/He provides on this Earth. You're supposed to throw them away in hopes that S/He will be proud of your self-denial and give you even better gifts after you die.

That's the theory, anyway.

But, see, that's an allegory about man's love for the church.

Never mind that I have yet to see a man engage in any of that kind of behavior with a church.

And then you have the people like the lass who wrote a Letter to the Editor claiming that "Abortion is illegal and always has been in our country becuase the legislative branch of our government has never legalized abortion." She goes on to claim that "the judicial branch (Supreme Court) did not have an abortion law to interpret so they took it upon themselves to make law. This is forbidden and is illegal."

I fear for the level of education in this country... And I'd love to bitch-slap the person who taught her that "fact".

Just remember... Any woman who has sex before marriage is a slut, and any woman who doesn't is fridgid or a prude.

It is the role of every woman out there to remain celibate before marriage, and to only have sex to please her husband, and her only reason for wanting sex is to have children, and for no other reason.

However, if a man doesn't have sex out of wedlock, he is a wimp, but if a man has sex while unmarried, he's a stud. It is a matter of pride for many men to have multiple partners, in or out of marriage, while it is a matter of "shame" for many women, yet if she does not, she is labeled as cold and incapable of it.

Yeah, we get the short end of the stick no matter how you put it. As far as the religious right is concerned, women are bad if they have sex, and as far as the rest of the world is concerned, they're bad if they don't. At least for guys, they're only bad if they don't.

because women who have sex are whores, and pregnancy is punishment for same.

Men are *supposed* to enjoy sex.

This entire line of thinking is enough to put me off my dinner, so I'll stop now.
