May. 17th, 2005 02:36 pm"Women who choose abortion have their morality questioned. Women who choose to put a baby up for adoption have their maternal instincts questioned, and women who carry an unplanned pregnancy to full term when unmarried or financially insecure are often labeled irresponsible." -- Thomas R. Suozzi, Nassau County executive (and Democrat and Catholic)

Date: 2005-05-17 06:55 pm (UTC)Unless you live in the house with the white picket fence and a yellow lab in the front yard, someone, somewhere will question your right to procreate (or not, as the case may be). :(

Date: 2005-05-17 07:06 pm (UTC)its a rediculous case of "live your life OUR way or don't live near me".
i always like to recall that the "sanctity of marriage" states all have the highest divorce rates. makes me feel warm and cosy, that.

Date: 2005-05-18 12:19 pm (UTC)And yeah...I am *always* fascinated to see *Mothers* desparaged when no one seems to give a rats ass about the abandonment rate by Fathers.
As I see it, abandoning a woman pregnant with your child is worse than abortion. Just my take after having watched what abandonment has done to my own daughter.

FWIW, Joe...most women know there are good men left in the world. We can tell the difference.
By the way...I think you'll make an awesome Dad one day...

Date: 2005-05-17 07:20 pm (UTC)One should simply learn to deny oneself anything that gives pleasure in this life, because God doesn't like you actually enjoying the gifts S/He provides on this Earth. You're supposed to throw them away in hopes that S/He will be proud of your self-denial and give you even better gifts after you die.
That's the theory, anyway.

Date: 2005-05-17 11:09 pm (UTC)It is the role of every woman out there to remain celibate before marriage, and to only have sex to please her husband, and her only reason for wanting sex is to have children, and for no other reason.
However, if a man doesn't have sex out of wedlock, he is a wimp, but if a man has sex while unmarried, he's a stud. It is a matter of pride for many men to have multiple partners, in or out of marriage, while it is a matter of "shame" for many women, yet if she does not, she is labeled as cold and incapable of it.
Yeah, we get the short end of the stick no matter how you put it. As far as the religious right is concerned, women are bad if they have sex, and as far as the rest of the world is concerned, they're bad if they don't. At least for guys, they're only bad if they don't.

This entire line of thinking is enough to put me off my dinner, so I'll stop now.
