yet another musical friday five
Apr. 23rd, 2005 12:31 pmIts music, so of course i'll do it...
1. What is the first record/tape/CD that you bought?
on 45? Human League's Don't You Want Me (I still have it)
on LP? Fleetwood Mac's Mirage (my dad stole that one ;-) )
on CD? Carlos Alomar's new age solo album (off the Private Music label; he was David Bowie's guitarist at the time, 1987)
2. Who is your favorite all time band/singer?
too many to name. Mike Oldfield is the longest standing in that category, followed by Yes. During college I picked up King Crimson and Marillion. Since then I've added The Flower Kings and Steve Hackett.
3. What have you been listening to lately?
Classical (well, Romantic-era, but associated with Classical). Beethovan, Debussy, Mahler. But I figure I'll get back into a celtic/folk-rock mood with the Southern Maryland Celtic Fest and May Day coming up.
4. What is your favorite radio station, what do they play, and where do they broadcast?
XM Radio's Fine Tuning (channel 76). "the world's most interesting music". just about anything goes.
5. Can you recommend a good song or CD that everyone should listen to?
no.
I judge my recommendations to people based on who they are and what I know about them. I wouldn't recommend a rock/prog cd to someone i already know doesn't listen to rock anymore; i wouldn't recommend a folk/celtic cd to a non-rennie. If i recommend something to someone personally, its a personal choice out of my collection, focussed on what i know they like and what kind of mood we're in at the time.
