conversation on the subject of the "creationist" book in the National Park Service gift shop of the  Grand Canyon site, recently moved from the "science" section to "inspirational". The book asserts that the canyon was carved during Noah's flood. (nevermind why does a government run store have an inspirational section)...

A: I don't get it.  What's so "inspirational" about Noah's Flood?

B: Well, it did inspire Bill Cosby to write a great comedy routine!

A: oh....RRIIIIIIGGHHTT...

Not to detract from the humour value (and that was funny...hell, any reference to Bill Cosby is worthy of a smile) or the point, but the interesting thing for me (from an anthropological POV), is that most cultures have a flood myth/story. I would be fascinated to see the ties from one to another. Sometimes, it's a way of tying cultures together someplace when, hitherto, we thought they'd had no contact. Sometimes, it's because there is some reality to the myth/story. Sometimes, mere coincidence. All of it is fascinating to me, however.

Which is all a total aside from your point...doing my part to make your day a little more surreal.

Well, at least, they did move that book somewhere else other than the science section where it obviously didn't belong!
