I wish I could say this was merely a humorous exaggeration...



but this exact same situation happened to my ex-girlfriend's brother back in 1989, when he was nearly dying from a (newly-discovered) shell-fish allergy attack.  The barely got him breathing again but hadn't done anything about the pain or the real problem, but once he said the words "blue cross blue shield", THEN they actually started to really work to save his life through the necessary drugs and proceedures.
