we have horrendous national debt and the budget deficit is expected to increase due to military war-on-terror expenditures, so we'll introduce even more tax cuts???

we love our national parks and wildlife refuges and understand how important the diversity is to the ecology of the planet, so we'll give corporations unrestricted access to development and reduce pollution controls to nothing???

we are educated people, aware of the needs to have scientific thinking and mathematics be priority features of our children's development, so we'll cut back even more on schools, switch to standardized tests that only increase rote memorization, and introduce creationism into biology classes as if it was science???

we hate prejudice and discrimination in any form it comes in, so we'll ban even the possibility of same-sex marriages thereby reducing between 7 and 10 percent of the population to second-class citizenship???

we're proud of the work done by the American hard-working family, so we'll do nothing as the job that supports them and their community gets outsourced overseas???

did I get all that right?

just checking.

I know you're blowing off steam right now, and the question is pretty much rhetorical, but my answer would be "no, you didn't get all that right."

Howe'er, we got lots of time to debate these points when things calm down and we each have time to gather our source material for citations. Makes for a more constructive discussion that way.

I know you're unhappy with the results, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pleased.

tax cuts? a speaker for the senate LAST NIGHT on MSNBC said they were already "planning an aggressive strategy", including introducing more tax cuts. (along with "conservative judges" (yes, he used that exact phrase))

the environment? there's plenty of evidence out there showing bush's record on that topic, both as president and as texas governor.

i'll leave the school cutbacks alone for now (i'm adopting a serious wait and see attitude on this one, and preparing my house for home-schooling if it becomes necessary),

but trust me on the creationism line -- i read about the efforts to get "intelligent design" (creationism wrapped in pseudoscientific jargon to look legit) in school curriculum every day. kansas is about to try it again; dover, PA just got it in there, and 2 rural regions of Ohio are also pushing for it.

same-sex marriages? the results are right in front of us. NOBODY is hiding their prejudicial fears and moral righteousness about THAT issue.

outsourced jobs? ok, i don't know what the solution is, and i'll admit that tax breaks alone (kerry's plan) wouldn't do it. however, the current administration is utterly ignoring the problem entirely.

15 or 20 years from now we'll be reading about these 8 years...the most conrtoversial presidency, the worst presidency, etc... the laswuits that will spring up against polluters 25 years from now because of deformed babies, cancer, etc.

He, *they*, played to the fears... "bibles will be banned, gays marrying in churches, terrorists knocking on your door, etc. Meanwhile, he and his rich buddies reap what they can (as AOL lays off 5% of it's workforce, I'm guessing, to ship the jobs over to India)
... and don't get me started on the whole evangelical bit... one theory says that they all figure if they can set up the middle-east right, they can trigger "Rapture" and have god comming back at their choosing.

Oh joy...
