For the Friends of MDRF pages, I posted my recaps of plots and other entertainment items from the past 12 or so years that I've been attending and working the festival. I decided to keep a copy of those for myself, located here.

Feel free to email me any corrections/mistakes. I've already corrected several today.

Little bits and pieces:

Rafe Rafton's sister was Serena Rafton, and was played by Stacy Venette, who also fought in the Chess Match.

Lady Edina Hargrove's "kidnapped" daughter was played by Gwynn Fulcher, who later became one of what Jim Frank called the "telepubbies" who helped bus tables at the White Hart for Pub Sing.

I recall the weekend following 9/11/2001 to be rather crowded, not lightly attended, as everything else was closed, including movie theatres, and the NFL and college games that weekend were postponed.

Wasn't Joyce Peifer in the in-house Mud Show at some point?

Yours truly debuted in 1999 as street con artist/magician "Desmond Devereaux." In 2003 Desmond would leave because of "an angry husband or nine" being on his tail, and his street conning duties would be taken over by Diego Natividad de la Estafa, aka "Dinty, The Moor."

I think the Daring Devilinis' last year at MDRF was 2000, after which they signed a long term contract at the Ohio RF.

so i mispelled Gwynn's last name. she'd actually been a YAE years earlier (There's footage Tee has of her with a bullwhip, '96, that's quite interesting...).

I forgot about the kidnapping specifics, nor do i remember the name of the hero, her rescuer (and casey's opponent in the pie wars). I do remember he was excellent, and greatly missed when he was unable to return for future seasons. I suppose I could look it up in AFR -- dash and columbina both posted about it so its probably in the google archives somewhere...

I couldn't remember stacy's last name at all, lazy memory of mine. i know she was in the chess match (I have pictures). in particular, her fight was against Mark as Sheriff Marshall.

Joyce was in the mud show its last two years pre-scratch (96, 97). Mark Parisi also did the mud show in '97 (which i didn't know until I saw the tapes today).

i'll get them updates probably on sunday, after i get a few other corrections from diane (who remembers *everything*, dammit). Diane created the telepubbies reference that everyone else would use. Laura Lynn was the third in the first year of that particular practice. They would continue until the Rumming Gang would take over in '02.

I need to add that in '01 and '02 we had Owen Phyfe playing on the boardwalk for a couple of weeks / year.

thanks

actually the numbers for scottish weekend '01 were about 17,000 and 16,500, far below the records set the previous year even though the weather was comperable.

so no, the site wasn't empty like it was on rain+humidity = only 4500 at a more recent scottish saturday, but it wasn't as packed as it could have been.

The Free Lancer's didn't debut in the year you mention, they returned. I know that Bri and Barchan worked with the Free Lancers my first visit to site (1989) and they were still there when I started with 3LF at site (1990). At that time the Mud Show was in the middle of the joust field.

St. Cecelia had one change between 2002 and 2003.

You are doing an excellent job of recapping, I am tempted to link to it and add my own memories for certain years. GRIN

I loved what Bill did the weekend after 9/11/01. That was beautiful. Ending the pubsing with the speech from the Grand Event (speech is from Richard III IIRC) and into "God Bless US" with the theatrical pyrotechnics was brilliant, moving, and appropriate.a

correction on the free lancers made. i don't see the 1-person st. c change into 2003 to be all that important, although it is what directly led to the dramatic change in 2004...

Year 2000

I did start in 2000, but it was not the first year for Hengrave Hall and the Guild of St. Gearge. That had been in existance for at least one, if not 2, years already. 2000 did see the beginning of the Guild of St. Genesius, which was intended as an actor's trainging guild for adults (similar to YAE). Both Pam and I were in Genesius, along with Rafe and J. Lasher, who kept their St. George/Hengrave Hall characters. I played John Bartleby, Pickett's secretary.
