I actually don't mind the Matrix sequels as much as others seem to. However, I do think that if one took the 2 films, edited them to only show the scenes that actually take place inside the matrix itself, plus a few key sequences of setup, one could get a single film that would have been a much better sequel than the two separate films ended up.

something about the zion stuff...you really don't care about them or what happens to them...neo v. smith, on the other hand, is much more enticing due to hugo's over the top approach to the role.

of course, had the third film been the major success it was supposed to have been, there very likely would have been a 4th film, dealing with the attempt by The Frenchman to restore the empire he had previous to Smith's demise.

i *really* would like to have seen how Smith finally took over The Frenchman, or if he escaped through his train tunnels...

I'm not sure whether it's sad of me or not that my biggest problem with the Zion sequences was the fact that the music didn't fit with the rave/orgy/whatever sequence.

I'd have been far less tikked about that part of the movie had there been tribal drumming instead of that awful stuff they had.

Interesting, re the 4th film. I'd always thought it was storyarc'd outfor 3.

i had no probs with the music at that point...kinda expected it, really.

yes, it was storyarched four 3 films...but ANY successful franchise can't stop at just 3, if it really works. they intentionally left things "open" just in case the call for a 4th was out there...

...might still happen someday...
