In particular, today I almost got clobbered as my CRV (not a terribly small car to start with) got surrounded by Explorers, Suburbans, and Expeditions, all coming through an on-ramp on US50 by Fair Oaks mall at about 50 miles an hour (when the traffic on the 50 itself was only doing 35-40), practically making it impossible for me to move into the exit ramp I needed. They basically refused to break until they had to, and then once on the road, gunned it to 60 mph within seconds before turning around and breaking again when they quickly caught up with the traffic doing the 40mph.

All that hurry coming through a cloverleaf ramp for nothing. Jerks.

Updated: At least the situation didn't include one of these pieces of junk in the middle of it all...

I've noticed that the number of SUVs and pick-ups of all types is up (I passed a string of about 6 of them in a row, then a lonely car, then another 2-3 of them the other day).

Yes, I count CRV in that list. As the driver of a fuel-efficient car (the Eagle gets around 32-35 mpg city), I don't like the SUVs. I can't see through them (to judge traffic patterns, save more gas, etc.), I can't see around them, they drink a LOT of gas (hiking the prices for all of us), and I can just see them really crumpling my car due to the high bumpers. I am not even mentioning (much) the driving habits of MOST of the SUV drivers and the resultant hit on insurance costs. Some people have a good reason for an SUV, most people don't other than the 'show-off' factor.

However, CRVs are better than most as far as the gas, emissions, etc. so they seem to be the best of the lot.a
